D PLUS D Events proudly helped style the New Years Eve Event for trusted venue client, Taronga Zoo Function Centre. With a myriad of detail across all 3 rooms encompassing the venue, we helped elevate the event and deliver fantastically styled spaces to ring in the New Year. From Management to the guests in attendance, they were all blown away by the end result.

Let’s take a closer look at how we crafted and met the clients brief for this visually stunning New Years Eve Event.

The Event

Along with the opening of Taronga Zoo’s new Wildlife Retreat nestled amongst the natural landscape of the actual Zoo, Epicure (the managers of the Taronga Zoo Function Centre) also launched its new The Gili Rooftop with sweeping harbour views. Its function spaces also received a face lift, The Harbourview Ballroom now called The Dalang Ballroom and The Harbourview Terrace now The N’galawa Terrace. Info on each room is below.

Divine Events has been one of the Zoo’s trusted suppliers for a number of years now. We know their teams and spaces well. With this experience and expertise in mind we were called upon to help style their end of year event across all three of their spaces.

To celebrate their new spaces and Sydney‘s iconic fireworks each New Year’s Eve, where better than at the Zoo with a panoramic view of the world’s most beautiful waterway.

The Events & Marketing Teams at the Zoo played a pivotal role in compiling and communicating the New Years Eve event brief.

The new Gili Rooftop was the premium VIP Area to be styled with a luxe mix of gold, greenery and earthy tones. And come midnight, they’d have a front row seat to the fireworks with one of the city’s most enviable views.

The N’galawa Terrace was themed ‘Enchant’-Elegant, luxurious, sophisticated and opulent.

The Dalang Ballroom where children were welcome to join in the celebrations too was themed ‘lluminate’. A space of Glowing Moody Lights!

The Proposal

The Gili Rooftop was to be styled with our Luxe Range in White and a splash of Gold with our new Avery Cocktail Range. Light earthy toned cushions would be the perfect accent to the furniture. Synthetic greens and fresh foliage would complete the natural feel. The 360 degree seating would enable the space to have a rotating flow of guests and the day beds by the edges, a perfect seat to view the fireworks. When it was dark the Mercury Tealights amidst Terrariums and Lanterns would add ambient lighting to the space.

The N’galawa Terrace would feature a bold combination of Black, Red and Gold. Textured Linen, Gold Tiffany Chairs, Soho Candelabras and opulent red Florals to adorn each table.

The Dalang Ballroom would transport its guests both young and old to a futuristic escape featuring our Crystal Range, White Linen to enhance the lighting provided by AV supplier Encore and White Tiffany Chairs.

The Execution

Keeping in mind road closures during New Year’s Eve in Sydney (and a wedding at the Terrace room a day prior) our Production Crew set up all three spaces simultaneously over 2 days with the finishing touches like florals and candles completed a few hours prior to event start time.

The Gili Rooftop had furniture and florals stored indoors to protect it from the harsh sun and weather overnight. These were put into place on the day. It is part of our pre-production process to ensure all items are cleaned and cling wrapped before they leave the warehouse so they are protected and arrive in mint condition. Of course, final wipe downs and styling touches are added onsite. This ensures we maximise our time on site to work with the client, venue staff and other suppliers to ensure all the elements for the event come together and are in sync.

The Terrace and Ballroom were set up in tandem with the Food and Beverage Teams. Lighting was then all tested by AV suppliers, Encore. The Entertainment for the evening arrived shortly after.

Guests walked through the Wildlife Retreat to make their way to the Gili Rooftop with the sun still shining. The palette of white and gold with touches of green coupled with free flowing Verve champagne was a sanctuary of the finest for the VIP guests. Epicure also celebrated Live Food Stations from their new Award Winning Chef.

It was Illuminating in the Ballroom with fluorescent splashes of colour adding to the ambience of the room. Guests relaxed over a fabulous three course dinner, with premium beverages ensuring everyone was able to toast the New Year in style. And once the sky lit up, they enjoyed the word-class fireworks display from one of the city’s best vantage points.

The Terrace sparkled with shades of Gold, muted by deep textured blacks. Guests could sample an exquisite four course degustation, whilst sipping on a selection of premium beverages, including Moet champagne. Surrounded by pops of bold floral colour by POHO and live music, they toasted to the New Year, while the sky ignited into a blaze of colour above Sydney Harbour.

A big round of applause goes to the wonderful team at Taronga Zoo Function Centre, along with their well selected suppliers for such an amazing job.
